How you will CELLebrate

The Senior Manager Energy Procurement will play a vital role in PowerCo's ongoing commitment to sustainability. Based on extensive Ontario energy market knowledge, the Senior Manager Energy Procurement will be supporting PowerCo’s renewable and caron-free electricity supply for the St. Thomas factory and will actively contribute to its procurement. This position is vital to advancing PowerCo's mission to only rely on sustainable energy sources, as well as contributing to PowerCo’s competitiveness by realizing attractive power prices. The contribution of the Senior Manager Energy Procurement will have a considerable impact on PowerCo's market positioning and power price.

 

This is a flex hybrid model, requiring 2 days in the St. Thomas Office. 

 

Responsibilities:

Energy Procurement (45%)

  • Lead energy procurement activities that align with PowerCo’s financial goals and sustainability targets.
  • Perform proactive comprehensive market analysis to identify energy procurement opportunities, including renewable Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), focusing on projects that support repowering and additionality.
  • Assess and source Clean Energy Credits (CEC) assessing both financial viability and sustainability impact.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and lead regular negotiations to execute procurement agreements with favorable terms.

Market and Regulatory Analysis (35%)

  • Provide actionable insights on electricity pricing, including components such as ‘Hourly Ontario Energy Price’ and ‘Global Adjustment’, to optimize PowerCo’s energy portfolio.
  • Track and interpret regulatory changes, policies, and legislation affecting the Ontario energy market.
  • Offer insights on regulatory trends and their potential impact on PowerCo’s energy procurement strategies.

Policy and Advocacy (10%)

  • Support policy advocacy efforts by providing analysis and recommendations that align with PowerCo’s economic and sustainability objectives.

Stakeholder Collaboration and Communication (10%)

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal teams to ensure alignment with PowerCo’s energy procurement goals.
  • Communicate regulatory and market insights effectively to stakeholders, focusing on senior management, ensuring clear understanding and strategic focus.
  • Provide regular updates on market developments and their potential impact on procurement strategies.
  
 
What you need for our CELLebration
  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., Energy Policy, Energy Economics, Environmental Sciences, Business, Engineering), or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Two or more years of experience in energy, potentially including expertise in renewable energy projects (e.g., “Repowering projects” or “Greenfield projects”)
  • Strong background in market analysis within the Ontario energy market.
  • Proven experience in supplier negotiation and managing the procurement processes advantageous.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey complex insights and collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Market Analysis Tools

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of clearly conveying complex regulatory and market insights to stakeholders at all levels.
