This position is in-person and located in the charming town of St. Thomas ON.

  
 
Your role and key responsibilities

The Quality Laboratory Co-op supports routine testing, inspection, and documentation activities to ensure lithium‑ion battery materials and finished cells meet established quality and safety standards. This role provides hands‑on experience with analytical equipment, quality systems, and manufacturing processes.

 

This is an 8-12 month co-op for a current co-op student.

  
 
What you bring to the team
  • Analyze draft test methods for incoming materials, in‑process checks, and final Li‑ion cells to determine clarity, completeness, and feasibility.
  • Compare methods against industry standards, supplier recommendations, and production needs to ensure alignment.
  • Highlight missing steps, ambiguous instructions, or inconsistencies in test method documents.
  • Flag potential issues that could impact future testing accuracy, repeatability, or safety.
  • Help draft, edit, or refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions, and method summaries.
  • Ensure documentation follows proper formatting, terminology, and controlled‑document expectations
  • Apply fundamental safety principles when handling materials or reviewing equipment specifications.
  • Follow document control and quality system expectations even before the lab is operational.
  
 
What makes you stand out
  • Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science, Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and compare analytical test methods from standards (e.g., moisture analysis, electrode characterization, electrolyte purity tests) to determine suitability for production needs.
  • Skill in identifying missing steps, unclear instructions, or inconsistencies in draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's)
  • Basic knowledge of method validation concepts such as accuracy, precision, linearity, repeatability, and detection limits
  • Ability to assist in writing and editing standard operating procedures, test instructions, and method summaries with clarity and precision.
  • Skill in organizing test method requirements, equipment needs, consumables lists, and safety considerations into structured tracking tools.
  • Skill in summarizing method gaps, risks, and recommendations in concise notes or slide decks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel for data organization.
  • Experience with data analysis, graphing, or interpreting test results in academic labs.
  • Ability to read technical literature, equipment manuals, or scientific data sheets.
