About the Role

For the ramp-up phase of our North American operations and beyond, we are looking for a Payroll Manager, reporting to the Head of Total Reward. This role will maintain payroll processing responsibilities and administrative duties for benefit administration at the PowerCo Canada facility in St. Thomas, ON.  We have lofty goals in 2024, and this role will play an important part in helping us achieve them. 

 

This is a flex hybrid model requiring 2 days per week in the St. Thomas office.

  
 
Key Responsibilities

Payroll Operations & Compliance
•    Manage the end-to-end process of bi-weekly & monthly payroll including onboarding of new hires into Dayforce, processing final pay calculations for terminations, review overtime reports for processing, manually update contractor hours and upload to Dayforce, process cost center changes, calculate retroactive payments, manually produce Records of Employments, updated Savings Plan changes in Dayforce (pension, RRSP/TFSA).
•    Ensure payroll compliance with all applicable laws, including tax withholding, deductions, and remittances. Prepare, review, and submit various payroll reports and government filings (e.g., T4, T4A, ROEs, etc.) as required.
•    Serve as an escalation point for payroll topics and addressing advanced payroll issue to provide guidance to ensure payroll integrity and compliance.
•    Respond to employee inquires and questions; redirect to appropriate resources 

 

Strategic Direction & Payroll Improvement
•    Lead PowerCo Canada on the strategic direction of payroll services for the NAR project.
•    Evaluate and drive improvements to payroll processes, systems, and procedures to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance. 
•    Establish appropriate procedures regarding the request for information from employees, managers and external areas.
•    Ensure that project outcomes align and move strategic and business goals towards targets
•    Responsible for the monitoring and implementation of continuous improvement processes projects.

 

Financial & Systems Management   
•    Oversee GL postings, responding to accounting inquiries as required
•    Oversee work with Total Reward team members to update payroll system with ongoing vehicle lease changes
•    Oversee relationship with Global Assignment team to support International Workers and related Third Parties.

 

Team Leadership & Collaboration 
•    Coordinate junior payroll team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
•    Other duties as relevant to the position

  
 
What you bring to the Team

•    Bachelors Degree in Business in Business, Human Resources, Finance and/or equivalent relevant work experience  
•    7+ years of experience in a fast-paced payroll environment, ideally within both unionized and non-unionized payrolls
•    Experience with Ceridian Dayforce is essential 
•    Certification in Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) certification is required.
•    Certification in Payroll Manager (CPM) is considered an asset.
•    Experience with Success Factors would be an asset Serve as a systems expert, addressing advanced system password resets, troubleshooting payroll software issues, and providing guidance to ensure system integrity and compliance.
•    Thorough knowledge of Ontario’s WSIB processes, legislation, and compliance requirements, including claims management, reporting, and return-to-work protocols.
•    Problem-solving and decision-making skills for emergency situations and complex administrative tasks
•    Robust knowledge of MS Office Suite, with advanced Excel and reporting skills
•    Demonstrated competency with general accounting and GL processing
•    Familiar with benefit plans, with the ability to administer multi-divisional plans
•    Background working with 3rd party providers (benefits, EAP, etc)
•    Potential for international travel to HQ in Germany (total travel up to ~10%) 
•    Overtime may be required to meet ramp-up deadlines 

•    Experience with coordination of global teams is a strong plus 
•    High degree of intercultural awareness and sensitivity 
•    A background in manufacturing, automotive or startups is a plus
