Reporting to the local Site Security Manager, and in partnership with the Lead of Global Fire Protection, the Fire and Emergency Response Lead will develop and implement a best-in-class fire prevention and response framework for PowerCo’s St. Thomas operations. This role will drive the fire prevention and emergency response strategy from initial planning through to full-scale operational readiness at the start of production. Responsible for ensuring a safe, compliant, and efficient fire protection system, this position will play a critical role in safeguarding PowerCo projects and programs.

 

This position is a temporary hybrid model, but will transition to fully onsite dependent on project and construction timelines. 

  
 
How you will CELLebrate

•    Lead PowerCo Canada's Fire Prevention and Response program, ensuring site development and operations from ground-up construction to daily factory activities and strong collaboration with local fire and emergency services
•    Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Security, HSE, and Operations etc. to develop and implement cohesive fire prevention strategies in alignment with local and global standards, codes, and regulations, adapting when necessary 
•    Develop, monitor and track project deliverables, provide progress reports and proactive responses when required, maintain scorecards and present information regularly
•    Develop and execute a local fire prevention strategy that aligns with company guidelines and tracks success with defined KPIs.
•    Foster a culture of fire prevention and prevention awareness and conduct comprehensive training programs to ensure adherence to global fire prevention standards.
•    Conduct analysis and work with internal and external partners to determine creation of an in-house fire response team or use of a fire response vendor.
•    Oversee the contract for Fire Prevention staff and/or vendor, ensuring the availability of qualified, motivated staff necessary to deliver desired objectives.
•    Conduct risk assessments, regular audits and review risk audits by the insurance company in partnership with all departments, addressing vulnerabilities and shaping robust fire prevention measures.
•    Collaborate with EHS and Operations, ensuring Fire Hazard Analyses (FHA), Fire Safe Shutdown Analyses (FSSA), and Code Compliance Reviews are performed and documented and actions addressed.
•    Serve as the subject matter expert for fire prevention and response while monitoring fire prevention activities on site, including hot work permits, chemical transfer from delivery to storage
•    Support the Fire Systems team during emergent breakdowns (e.g. pipe breaks, alarm failures) and determine appropriate corrective action
•    Ensure the Fire Prevention Program – Technical Service & Fire Systems documents and related procedures are used, where applicable, to define how work will be done within the areas of responsibility.
•    Report and share learnings from incidents and near incidents.
•    Coaching, guiding and facilitating line managers with implementing the Fire Prevention Program 
•    Conduct training and oversight of building emergency and evacuation teams, and implement fire safety instruction and training standards for external suppliers and visitors 

  
 
What you need for our CELLebration


•    Bachelor's Degree and/or Technical Diploma within a relevant field with 7+ years of relevant work experience as a Firefighter in  Canada, having reached the rank of Captain or higher
•    NFPA certification for HAZMAT incident response
•    Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

  
 
What else can you bring

•    Strong understanding of the National Building Code, Canadian Electrical Code, National Fire Code and applicable National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA), Canadian Underwriters Laboratories CAN/ULC, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Canadian Standards Association and N393 standards and FM Global.
•    Strong knowledge of operational fire prevention, fire prevention and best practices.
•    Intuitive understanding of complex industry dynamics and multiple business functions.
•    Proven history of training and experience leading crisis and incident management teams
•    Proficiency in the provision, operation, and maintenance of fire prevention, suppression, and alarm systems, as well as other interrelated building systems, as required. 
•    Experience developing and reviewing fire hazard analyses, assessments, and other fire safety documentation 
•    Experience developing fire safety-related contract requests, budgets, and planning for future activities.
•    Ability to reach site location within 30 minutes when working remotely
•    Ability to travel both domestically and internationally
