About the Role

PowerCo Canada Inc. is seeking a skilled and experienced machine connectivity solution specialist to lead activities related to integration of production line equipment (PLEs) to higher systems such as MES. This role plays a critical part in enabling the transmission of shopfloor data to MES system and Cloud-based analytics platforms through standardized interfaces. As connectivity and MES solutions are defined, developed, and configured by the Central Digitalization team, it is essential for this position to represent the St. Thomas facility and effectively communicate local requirements and changes to the central team. Additionally, this role will lead the rollout of central digital solutions during the deployment phase at the local site. After deployment, the specialist will be responsible for maintaining, updating, and enhancing the interface to meet evolving operational needs. Your expertise will be instrumental in bridging the gap between business requirements and technical execution, ensuring seamless transitions and delivering measurable outcomes from our digital initiatives.

 

This is a flex hybrid work structure, where employees can work both remotely and on-site at our St. Thomas location.

  
 
Key Responsibilities

•    Oversee the connectivity solution (“gateway”) of the shopfloor equipment to various IT systems including MES and data analytics platform
•    Roll out the solution designed by the central team in the St. Thomas factory
•    Act as a central point of contact with deep knowledge about the connectivity solutions for key stakeholders in St. Thomas
•    Support the central digitalization team in design, development and deployment of industrial machine connectivity solution tailored to battery manufacturing processes.
•    Collaborate with process engineers through design, installation and operation phases of industrial machines to ensure the suitability of the connectivity solution
•    Collaborate with cross-functional teams (automation, MES, Cloud Data Analytics platform, IT) to gather requirements and translate them into connectivity functions and ensure integration of the solutions
•    Steer and collaborate with 3rd party suppliers working on the connectivity solution
•    Have a clear picture of battery production processes, with a detailed understanding of the used equipment and stay up to date with process and equipment changes
•    equipment design and development meetings to ensure consistency of interface with defined standard interface Support in the development of machine data models for digital solutions
•    Ensure (near-)real-time data acquisition, and other data flows for traceability
•    Ensure compliance with internal governance, data privacy, and security standards during rollout and operations
•    Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements related to data integrity and manufacturing control.
•    Collaborate with IT and cybersecurity teams to safeguard digital assets from threats.
•    Share key insights and learnings within PowerCo, e.g. from initial acceptance and testing
•    Lead development of potential improvements through digital solutions in the production line.
•    Support shop floor personnel in troubleshooting connectivity issues.
•    Develop and maintain documentation including system architecture, data flow diagrams, configurations, and changes.
•    Actively seek to improve the connectivity strategy together with the central team
•    Conduct training sessions for key stakeholders.
•    Preferably configure connectivity solution/interface to align with needs and changes on the shopfloor

  
 
What you bring to the Team

•    Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, or a related field.
•    3+ years of experience in similar field such as SCADA engineering, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
•    Hands-on experience with SCADA platforms such as Connectware, Wonderware/AVEVA, Ignition, GE iFIX, WinCC, or similar.
•    Strong knowledge of PLC systems (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider, etc.).
•    Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, OPC, Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet).
•    Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
•    Experience in battery manufacturing, automotive, or high-tech industries.
•    Experience of integration with MES, ERP, or Cloud-based data architectures.
•    Knowledge of cybersecurity standards for industrial control systems (ISA/IEC 62443).
•    Experience with scripting and programming languages (e.g., Python, VBScript, SQL).
•    Understanding of real time data acquisition and historian systems
•    Experience with tools like Jira, Confluence, MS Project, or similar platforms
•    Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
•    Willingness to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a focus on continuous improvement.
•    Ability to adapt to changing requirements and new technologies..
•    Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
